Normal Line and Corners
The normal line to a graph at a point and the corner points of a function on an interval.
What to find:
f(x) =
x
x₀ =
Examples: x^2, sin x, abs(x^2 − 1). Numbers may be written as 1/2, pi/4.
This calculator writes the normal line to a graph at a point and searches for corner points on an interval.
y − f(x₀) = −1/f′(x₀) · (x − x₀)
Example. For f = x² at x₀ = 1 the normal is y = −x/2 + 3/2. The function |x² − 1| has corners at x = −1 and x = 1.
