Temperature
Temperature converter: Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin, Rankine and Réaumur. Conversion formulas with the numbers substituted.
The temperature converter converts degrees Celsius, Fahrenheit and kelvins, as well as degrees Rankine and Réaumur. The solution shows the conversion formula with the numbers substituted, and the table shows the value on all scales at once.
Temperature conversion formulas
Unlike length or mass, temperature scales have different zero points, so the conversion is not only a multiplication but also a shift:
| Conversion | Formula |
|---|---|
| °C → °F | t(°F) = t(°C) · 1.8 + 32 |
| °F → °C | t(°C) = (t(°F) − 32) · 5/9 |
| °C → K | T = t(°C) + 273.15 |
| K → °C | t(°C) = T − 273.15 |
| °F → K | T = (t(°F) − 32) · 5/9 + 273.15 |
Reference points
| °C | °F | K | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Absolute zero | −273.15 | −459.67 | 0 |
| Water freezes | 0 | 32 | 273.15 |
| Body temperature | 37 | 98.6 | 310.15 |
| Water boils | 100 | 212 | 373.15 |
At −40 the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales coincide: −40 °C = −40 °F. There is no temperature below absolute zero — the calculator reports an error.
