The area converter converts square millimeters, centimeters, meters and kilometers, ares and hectares, as well as square inches, feet, yards, miles, acres and the old Russian desyatina. The solution shows why area factors are so large: the length unit is squared.
Why 1 m² = 10,000 cm²
A square meter is a square with side 1 m = 100 cm, so its area is 100 · 100 = 10,000 cm². For area, the length conversion factor is squared:
1 km = 1000 m ⇒ 1 km² = (1000 m)² = 1,000,000 m²
