Accelerated Motion
Kinematic equations: v = v₀ + at, s = v₀t + at²/2, acceleration and time, free fall and vertical throw.
The uniformly accelerated motion calculator finds velocity, displacement, acceleration and time, and solves free fall problems and problems on objects thrown straight up.
Kinematic equations
| Find | Formula |
|---|---|
| velocity | v = v0 + at |
| displacement | s = v0t + at²/2 |
| displacement without time | s = (v² − v0²) / 2a |
| acceleration | a = (v − v0) / t |
When slowing down, the acceleration points against the velocity and is entered with a minus sign.
Free fall
Without air resistance all bodies fall with acceleration g ≈ 9.8 m/s²: h = gt²/2, v = √(2gh). An object thrown up at v0 rises to h = v0² / 2g.
Example. A stone falls from 45 m (g = 10 m/s²): t = √(2 · 45 / 10) = 3 s, v = 10 · 3 = 30 m/s.
