Russian Plural Forms
The correct form of a Russian noun after a number (1 яблоко, 2 яблока, 5 яблок), with the rule and a table of forms.
The Russian noun and number agreement tool picks the correct form of a Russian noun after a number: 1 яблоко, 2 яблока, 5 яблок, 21 год, 12 лет. It shows the rule and a table of forms for different numbers.
The rule
The form of the noun depends on the last two digits of the number:
| Number ends in | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (except 11) | nominative singular | 1, 21, 101 рубль |
| 2, 3, 4 (except 12–14) | genitive singular | 2, 33, 104 рубля |
| 0, 5–9, 11–14 | genitive plural | 5, 11, 100 рублей |
After a decimal number the noun is in the genitive singular: 2,5 литра.
Tricky words
- год — 5 лет, человек — 5 человек, раз — 5 раз, ребёнок — 5 детей;
- глаз, сапог, солдат, чулок have a zero ending in the genitive plural: пять сапог.
For developers pluralizing Russian strings: if n % 100 is 11–14, use the third form; otherwise n % 10 = 1 gives the first form, 2–4 the second, anything else the third.
