Astrophotometry
Magnitude, brightness ratio, absolute magnitude and distance.
What to find:
The smaller the magnitude, the brighter the object. Interstellar extinction is ignored.
This calculator links magnitude, brightness, absolute magnitude and distance.
m₁ − m₂ = −2.5 · lg(E₁ / E₂), M = m + 5 − 5 lg d
Example. A difference of 5 magnitudes means a brightness ratio of exactly 100.
