Cube
Find the volume, surface area, face diagonal and space diagonal of a cube from the edge, a diagonal, the volume or the area.
The cube calculator finds the volume, the total and lateral surface area, the face diagonal, the space diagonal and the radii of the inscribed and circumscribed spheres from one known value: the edge, a face diagonal, the space diagonal, the volume or the surface area.
Cube formulas
| Value | Formula |
|---|---|
| Volume | V = a³ |
| Total surface area | S = 6a² |
| Lateral surface area | Slat = 4a² |
| Face diagonal | d1 = a√2 |
| Space diagonal | d = a√3 |
| Circumscribed sphere radius | R = a√3 / 2 |
| Inscribed sphere radius | r = a / 2 |
| Edge from volume | a = ∛V |
Example 1. The edge of a cube is 4 cm.
V = 4³ = 64 cm³, S = 6 · 16 = 96 cm², d = 4√3 ≈ 6.93 cm.
Example 2. The volume of a cube is 125 cm³.
a = ∛125 = 5 cm, S = 6 · 25 = 150 cm².
A cube has 6 square faces, 12 equal edges and 8 vertices; three edges meet at right angles at each vertex. The cube is a regular polyhedron (hexahedron).
