Data Units
Data units converter: bits, bytes, KB, MB, GB, TB, KiB and MiB. Conversion with a solution and a table.
⇄
Enter a whole number, a decimal (2.5), a fraction (1/3) or scientific notation (6.02e23).
The data units converter converts bits, bytes, kilobytes and larger units. Binary units use a factor of 1024 (1 KiB = 1024 bytes), while decimal units, used by disk manufacturers, use 1000 (1 KB = 1000 bytes). The converter has both groups.
Units
| Unit | In the base unit (B) |
|---|---|
| bit (bit) | 1/8 |
| byte (B) | 1 |
| kibibyte (KiB) | 1024 |
| mebibyte (MiB) | 1048576 |
| gibibyte (GiB) | 1073741824 |
| tebibyte (TiB) | 1099511627776 |
| pebibyte (PiB) | 1125899906842624 |
| kilobyte (KB) | 1000 |
| megabyte (MB) | 1000000 |
| gigabyte (GB) | 1000000000 |
| terabyte (TB) | 1000000000000 |
| petabyte (PB) | 1000000000000000 |
| kilobit (Kbit) | 125 |
| megabit (Mbit) | 125000 |
| gigabit (Gbit) | 125000000 |
| kibibit (Kibit) | 128 |
| mebibit (Mibit) | 131072 |
Example. 2 MiB = 2 · 1024 · 1024 = 2,097,152 bytes.
