Coulomb's Law
Force between point charges F = k|q₁||q₂|/r², distance, charge and electric field strength.
The Coulomb's law calculator finds the force between two point charges, the distance between them, the charge and the electric field of a point charge.
Coulomb's law
F = k|q1| · |q2|/r², k = 9 · 109 N·m²/C²
Like charges repel, opposite charges attract. The force falls with the square of the distance: at twice the distance it is 4 times weaker.
Example. 2 μC and 3 μC 3 cm apart: F = 9 · 109 · 2 · 10−6 · 3 · 10−6 / 0.03² = 60 N.
Electric field
E = k|q|/r²
The field strength is in N/C (= V/m). The calculation is for vacuum; in a medium the force is ε times weaker.
