Electric Power and Cost
Work done by current W = VIt, power P = VI, energy in kWh and the cost of electricity at your rate.
The electric work and power calculator finds the work done by current, the power, the energy used in kilowatt-hours and the cost of electricity at a given rate.
Formulas
W = V · I · t = P · t, P = V · I
At home electric energy is measured in kilowatt-hours: 1 kWh = 1000 W · 3600 s = 3,600,000 J.
Electricity cost
C = P · t · r
where P is the appliance power in kW, t the running time in hours and r the price of 1 kWh.
Example. A 1500 W kettle runs for 2 h at 6.5 per kWh: E = 1.5 · 2 = 3 kWh, C = 3 · 6.5 = 19.5.
