Consecutive Number Sums
Whether a number can be written as a sum of consecutive natural numbers, and all such sums, with the solution.
A natural number up to 10¹². A sum must have at least two terms.
This calculator checks whether a number can be written as a sum of two or more consecutive natural numbers and lists all such sums.
The rule
There are as many sums as the number has odd divisors greater than one. Only powers of two cannot be written this way: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and so on.
Example. The odd divisors of 15 are 3, 5 and 15, so there are three sums: 7 + 8, 4 + 5 + 6 and 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5.
